D.J. Thompson joined OKCNP in February 2020 as the Nonprofit Consultant Senior Manager. Thompson served as a professional trainer for the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits teaching the Standards for Excellence in the early stages of its implementation in Oklahoma from 2007-2009. Thompson has a passion for helping nonprofit organizations be the very best at managing their business so the product they provide is also exceptional for the communities they serve. Her passion is built around knowing that a strong nonprofit sector means a better Oklahoma in every way and for everyone. Thompson, a native of Oklahoma City, recently returned to the area after living and working in Muskogee, OK for almost ten years. While there, she served as the President and CEO for the Greater Muskogee Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, as well as the Chief Operations Officer for the City of Muskogee Foundation. She has worked in various capacities within the Oklahoma nonprofit sector for the past 25 years including as the executive director for the Oklahoma Council on Economic Education, and as the Vice President of Community Investment for United Way of Central Oklahoma, where she worked for over ten years. D.J. is a graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma, where she earned a BA in Social Studies Education. Thompson has served on dozens of boards, committees, and advisory councils throughout her career. She is a graduate of OSU Spears School of Business Executive Leadership Program, Leadership Exchange Academy, Leadership Oklahoma City’s Class XXIV, Leadership Muskogee Class XXIII, is a 2007 recipient of the OKCBusiness Forty Under 40 Award, and the Muskogee Chamber’s 2015 Volunteer of the Year Award. She is a lover of all animals, especially her two rescue dogs, enjoys hiking, binge watching a good series, and traveling. She has been married to her husband Patrick for twenty-four years, and has two daughters, Lauren and Regan.
