Cara Fogarty is a nonprofit, educational, and editorial professional. From 2016-2024, she served as a consultant with the Nonprofit Institute at the College of Southern Maryland where she advised and assisted nonprofits on a range of topics and issues. She also spent nearly a decade working for a nonprofit organization in St. Mary’s County, Maryland. Prior to working in the nonprofit arena, Fogarty was a journalist in both commercial and public radio, working as a reporter in Columbus, Ohio, and upstate New York, and as a newscast producer for the now-defunct Mutual Broadcasting System/NBC Radio Network in Arlington, Va. She also served as the supervising online editor for NPR.org in the early days of the web. Fogarty was an adjunct professor for 20 years at the College of Southern Maryland where she taught writing and communication courses. She now focuses on her work as a freelance editor and writer and continues working with nonprofits as a consultant. She holds a master’s degree in journalism from The Ohio State University and a bachelor’s degree from SUNY/Oneonta.
