Kate Schulze is the Managing Member, General Counsel, and Chief Ethics Officer for Ethics Alliance Maryland, a consulting firm providing legal, compliance, governance, and ethics support to nonprofit and for-profit organizations. Kate retired in March of 2021 after nearly 27 years as an attorney, Chief Compliance & Ethics Officer, Senior Vice President, and Director for financial service companies. She turned her passion for giving back to the community into a full-time business. Kate has volunteered, served as a director, committee member, and board chair, and provided pro-bono services for nonprofit organizations in Maryland, Virginia, Illinois, and Michigan for many years. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and a Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School and is licensed to practice law in Michigan, Illinois, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. She is experienced in drafting board governance documents and company policies and procedures, and her training presentations are well researched, highly rated, and draw from “real-life” scenarios. Having served as an attorney for the U.S.Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission before moving to in-house counsel, compliance, and ethics roles, she provides practical solutions to mitigate reputation, legal, compliance, operational and financial risk. She can build, protect, restore, and leave a place better than she found it!
