The Standards for Excellence Institute would like to congratulate Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area for renewing their accreditation under the Standards for Excellence: An Ethics and Accountability Code for the Nonprofit Sector.

Being accredited by the Standards for Excellence Institute demonstrates that the nonprofit has met the rigorous requirements that are included in the standards. Being an accredited nonprofit sets the organization apart as a top performer in the nonprofit field and lets all its partners (funders, community members, board, staff, volunteers) know that they can have confidence in the quality of its programs, its accountability and openness, and its commitment to proven practices.

Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area’s mission is to teach, care for, and connect with those in our community affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other memory-related impairments. The organization serves mostly the senior population of those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and memory-related dementia as well as their family and professional care givers. The organization provides services in ten parishes (counties) in and around Baton Rouge, LA as well as trains nursing home staff across the state of Louisiana.

Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area’s programs include: 3 Charlie’s Place Respite Centers, Support Programs: Respite Reimbursement, Support Groups, Helpline, Safe Return, Resource Library, TLC Caregiver events, and Book Club. Education programs: ADAPT, Education Conferences, Lunch-N-Learn, Financial Literacy, Risk Reduction, Dementia Care Training.

Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area’s Executive Director, Barbara W. Auten, says “the Standards for Excellence is the compass I use to lead our organization. I know we are not perfect, but the Standards inspire us to use best-practices and be the best we can be.”

She continues “The Standards Governance area guided us to implement good succession planning. Well in advance of my planned retirement we have a succession plan in hand for top leadership so the transition can run smoothly. The organization will not suffer as major stakeholders, board, staff, and constituents have all been a part of the plan and will be included in its execution.”
