Cornerstone

The Standards for Excellence Institute would like to congratulate Cornerstone Community Housing for renewing their accreditation under the Standards for Excellence: An Ethics and Accountability Code for the Nonprofit Sector.

Being accredited by the Standards for Excellence Institute demonstrates that the nonprofit has met the rigorous requirements that are included in the standards. Being an accredited nonprofit sets the organization apart as a top performer in the nonprofit field and lets all its partners (funders, community members, board, staff, volunteers) know that they can have confidence in the quality of its programs, its accountability and openness, and its commitment to proven practices.

Cornerstone Community Housing has a twofold mission. They are dedicated to helping men experiencing homelessness rebuild their lives and to changing community attitudes toward homelessness through outreach and education.

Cornerstone Community Housing operates two programs serving men experiencing homelessness. Earl’s Place, located in Baltimore City, is a transitional housing program that provides safe housing and supportive services to help residents move toward stability and independence. Prospect Place, in Baltimore County, is a Housing First permanent supportive housing program that offers long-term housing with wraparound services for individuals with complex needs. Together, these programs provide a continuum of care designed to support housing stability and improved quality of life.

Cornerstone Community Housing’s Executive Director, Sheila Helgerson, says “The Standards for Excellence has strengthened our organization by improving governance, accountability, and operational practices. It has enhanced board engagement and clarified roles, resulting in more effective oversight and a stronger foundation to support our mission.”

Congratulations again to Cornerstone Community Housing for this noteworthy achievement. They have earned the right to proudly use the Seal of Excellence, the symbol for excellence and transparency in nonprofit management.
