The Standards for Excellence® Institute partners with the Nonprofit Support Group to help nonprofits achieve the highest governance and management standards.

Baltimore, MD – March 25, 2025 – The Standards for Excellence® Institute, a nation-wide initiative dedicated to promoting the highest standards of ethics and accountability in nonprofit governance, management, and operations, announces a partnership with the Nonprofit Support Group (NSG), an organization dedicated to strengthening communities by empowering nonprofit organizations to meet their capacity needs. As a Standards for Excellence® replication partner, the Nonprofit Support Group will bring the full complement of Standards for Excellence® educational resources, expertise, and programming to the nonprofit organizations in Western New York and Monroe County, New York.

Amy Coates Madsen, Director of the Standards for Excellence Institute, states:

Our partnership with the Nonprofit Support Group will allow a growing group of nonprofits and their leaders to enhance the ways that they manage and govern their organizations, ultimately creating stronger communities. NSG’s innovative approach to sharing this program with nine counties in Western New York through partners and intermediaries is exciting. We are thrilled to be working with NSG and we welcome NSG to the Standards for Excellence Institute family.”

Katie Pieri, Director of the Nonprofit Support Group, shares:

“The Nonprofit Support Group (NSG) is dedicated to strengthening communities across Western New York (WNY) and Monroe County by enhancing the capacity of local nonprofit organizations and the organizations that serve them. NSG is proud to partner with the Standards for Excellence to increase the resources available to achieve high ethical standards, transparency, and strong governance for our partners and nonprofit organizations.

As part of our commitment to making sure this content is widely available to all of our communities, NSG has partnered with 14 consultants and nonprofit organizations, who will serve as active facilitators and distributors of the Standards curricula across WNY and Monroe County. We believe that this content will help to build stronger nonprofits, more connected communities, and more robust support networks across the region.”

Nonprofit Support Group partnerNSG’s partners convened earlier this month for an extensive training on the Standards for Excellence program tools, resources, and curricula, as well as the Standards for Excellence®: An Ethics and Accountability Code for the Nonprofit Sector.  The code focuses on principles of honesty, integrity, fairness, respect, trust, responsibility, and accountability in nonprofit program operations, governance, human resources, financial management, and fundraising.
