Lorraine Holmes Settles

Lorraine is a Certified Fund Raising Executive and a Master Trainer selected and trained by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the world’s leading and largest organization of fundraising professionals.  She joined The Arc Prince George’s County in February 2016 and brings expertise in establishing development operations, annual funds, foundation relations and corporate partnerships. She also has extensive experience in proposal writing, training nonprofit boards, and creating diversified fundraising platforms. Lorraine served as a development consultant for nearly two decades serving more two dozen nonprofit organizations.    Her responsibilities at The Arc Prince George’s County include annual fund development from individuals, corporations, foundations and special events.  She oversees membership development, media marketing, direct mail, grant management, prospect research, and donor stewardship activities. Since joining The Arc Prince George’s County, Lorraine has increased private sector funding by more than 70% and has increased local government funding, including from elected officials by 25%. One of the larger new government grants has allowed Lorraine to expand her team to screen over 600 individuals who have successfully applied for federal benefits for which they had never applied but were eligible to receive. She also successfully competed for The Arc to receive Maryland Community Investment Tax Credits which provide bottom-line tax deductions for eligible donors. Branding and increased awareness of The Arc Prince George’s County beyond the disability community has occurred under her leadership.   

Lorraine serves on the board of the Behavioral Health Management Institute and is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies with Honors at the University of Delaware and completed her Masters of Arts degree along with all the doctoral coursework and comprehensive exams toward a Ph.D. in Organizational Communication at Howard University.  She also has been trained by the Anti-Defamation League as an anti-bias facilitator and the Center for Nonprofit Advancement in the principles of nonprofit board governance.  She loves music, travel, meeting new people, coaching young women and enjoys baking.
