Barbara Huston

Barbara Huston is a staunch advocate of the nonprofit sector and offers strategies and training to accomplish critical human service missions.

Her skills include planning, programming, and budgeting; volunteer recruitment, training, and retention; grant writing, program management, and reporting methods; leadership mentoring and board governance; and social enterprise operations.

As a co-founder and CEO of Partners In Care Maryland, she successfully navigated complexities of the nonprofit life cycle and managed organization growth to include multiple social enterprises and sites at four Maryland counties, helping thousands of older adults to stay in their own homes and to remain engaged in the community.

During her 24-year tenure, Partners In Care Maryland received a national grant from NCOA for Multigenerational Civic Engagement, was recognized by the National Alliance for Caregiving with its 2010 National Family Caregiving Award, and received the Beverly Foundation Program Excellence in Senior Supplemental Transportation STAR award.

Partners In Care Maryland also holds the national Standards for Excellence Certification.

Barbara received her master’s degree from the University of Maryland University College. She is a Certified Public Manager (University of Baltimore), a Standards for Excellence Licensed Consultant, a 2008 Weinberg Fellow, and a graduate of the Leadership Anne Arundel Flagship program.

She was honored to receive the national “More Than Words” award from the Harlequin Foundation, the Distinguished Graduate Award in 2009 from Leadership Anne Arundel, the “Women Make a Difference” award from the American Business Women’s Association, and the Sen. Paul Sarbanes Spirit Award for Social Entrepreneurship in 2007.

In 2017, she was privileged to receive the Women Who Make a Difference" award from the Northern Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce and Transportation Association of Maryland Leadership award.

She has presented at numerous organizational conferences including the Maryland Gerontological Association, the Transportation Association of Maryland, the National Center for Senior Transportation, the Utah Gerontological Association, United Seniors of Maryland, the American Society on Aging, and the International Conference on Aging, Disability and Independence. She was honored to be one of three American presenters at the Belfast Volunteer Now 2011 International Conference.

She has served on various boards, including the Anne Arundel County Commission for Women, the founding board of TimeBanks USA, the state association of Maryland Nonprofits and the United Way Community Care Partnership of Anne Arundel County.
