 Melissa Hough Curtin

Melissa Hough Curtin is a certified coach and consultant who specializes in nonprofit executive and leadership coaching, management and team building, strategic planning, board development and facilitation. Melissa provides a unique perspective to clients as she has over two decades of nonprofit and corporate leadership experience that also includes grant management, grant writing, fund development, leadership development, grant making, government affairs, corporate responsibility, writing, public speaking, people management, and stakeholder engagement.

Melissa presently serves as the Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County. Previously, she served as President & CEO of the Richmond, Virginia based Partnership for Nonprofit Excellence, an affiliated entity of The Community Foundation Serving Richmond and Central Virginia. In this role, she led collaboration among partner programs to help local nonprofits maximize their operational capacity and effectively achieve their mission. She was Vice President of Workforce Readiness, Business and Community Engagement for Corporate Voices for Working Families and Vice President for National Partnerships and Development at the Forum for Youth Investment where she helped build the Ready by 21 National Partnership. Throughout her career, she also served in a variety of leadership positions at Altria Client Services, Inc., Philip Morris USA and the National Conference of State Legislatures.

A Colorado native, Melissa earned her Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Wyoming and her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Denver. She is a certified leadership coach through the New Agreements Coach Training and Leadership Institute and is in the final months of training to become a certified Martha Beck Life Coach. Melissa is certified to provide Emergenetics WETeam training and teambuilding. She is also a Standards for Excellence Licensed Consultant. The Standards for Excellence Institute is a national initiative established to promote the highest standards of ethics, effectiveness, and accountability in nonprofit governance, management, and operations, and to help all nonprofit organizations meet these high benchmarks. As a licensed consultant, Melissa has extensive knowledge of the leading nonprofit governance practices and access to the extensive code and resources available through the Institute.

Melissa previously served on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Richmond & Tri-Cities and is a 2010 graduate of Leadership Metro Richmond.
