As a communication specialist, grant writer and small business owner, Joan McNamara brings her exceptional experience to the benefit of her clients. In 1992, after moving to Maryland, she became a paralegal for a family law, civil rights litigation attorney who specialized in representing children and adolescents with disabilities. It was her successful experience in this position that enabled her to pursue a career as a Special Education English teacher and Reading specialist for Montgomery County Public Schools, advocating for students and families. She has a proven track record of success facilitating collaboration with stakeholders, advocating for families and working with a population with limited English language skills, as well as mild to moderate learning and processing disabilities. After moving to the Eastern Shore, Joan was presented with an opportunity to use her effectual communication skills to start her own business proposal and grant writing company, which inspired the creation of JJ Consulting. She is committed to providing capable, quality work in the areas of grant writing, report analysis, strategic planning, social media content, and executive interpersonal communications. Joan’s clients span a variety of creative business and non-profit organizations that have been awarded over half a million dollars in private and state funding for unique programs and capital projects. She supports local civic and community minded organizations such as the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, Martingham Property Owners Association and St. Michaels Community Center by volunteering her time and talent. Joan has a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications from Lynchburg College, and a Master of Arts & Teaching from Towson University. She has a Graduate Certificate of Education Administration from McDaniel College and a Certificate from the University of Notre Dame, Mendoza College for Nonprofit Executive Programs, Effective Grant Proposal Writing.
