Ruth Masterson provides practical insights and inspired results to funders and nonprofits doing assessments, planning and evaluation; strategy implementation; writing and editing; organizational support; compensation benchmarking; speaking and training for boards and at conferences; and assisting new nonprofits with their formation and exemption. She served as Senior Program Director and Content Services Team Lead at Exponent Philanthropy for over a decade, where she created their board self-assessment and grantee perception survey tools and managed their annual member data benchmarking survey. She served members in the areas of governance, grantmaking, administration, and legal topics.

Prior to that, she served nonprofits in her work at Adler & Colvin, the Council on Foundations, and the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law. Ruth earned her master’s in public policy at Johns Hopkins University with a focus in nonprofit management, a certificate in international development at JHU’s School of Advanced International Studies, and a BA at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. She’s actively involved with and a member of BoardSource, Maryland Nonprofits, the National Network of Consultants to Grantmakers, the Alliance for Nonprofit Management, and the American Evaluation Association.
